FAA regulations require a pilot to maintain currency in order to exercise the priviledges for carrying passengers, carrying passengers at night, and/or instrument flying. Depending on the situation, currency can be satisfied by a minimum of various operations (landings and take-offs, instrument approaches, etc.) AND Biannual Flight Reviews. However, currency doesn't necessary equate to proficiency. Currency is merely the minimum standards as required by the FAA to remain legal. Proficiency, on the other hand, is being prepared to handle aviation situations safely.

To: MAPA Safety Foundation Board Dear MAPASF Board, Thank you for yet another terrific PPP. KACY was a truly excellent event. The program was fresh, interesting and relevant (and it didn't hurt that you managed to arrange for some spectacular wx while you were at it). I very much appreciate all of the presentations and the addition of night flights (although Parvez is likely asking himself why he agreed to fly with me again). Anyone flying a Mooney should make the PPP part of their annual routine. Thank you all! Best regards, Thomas A. Ascher |
